Temporal 101: Build Your First Durable Application

September 16, 2026 at 9am PT/12pm ET

Introducing a virtual Temporal 101 workshop for developers.

Learn to make an application durable with a Temporal SA, live in a browser-based lab.

An application can look reliable until it fails halfway through a multi-step process, with some work already done and no record of what ran. Starting over risks repeating steps that already completed.

In this workshop you'll hit that failure yourself, then rebuild the process with Temporal so it survives.

What you'll build

  • Your first Temporal Workflow, Worker, and Task Queue
  • Activities that safely interact with external services
  • Failure handling with timeouts, automatic retries, and typed business errors
  • A human approval flow using Signals and durable Timers
  • A complete multi-step application that survives outages and Worker restarts

You'll leave understanding how Temporal records what an application has done and rebuilds Workflow state after a failure, so a process keeps moving without re-running the work it already finished.

The format

A 30-minute Intro to Temporal and where it fits in an application, then 90 minutes hands-on with exercises.

Exercises take place using Instruqt, a browser-based IDE, so there's nothing to install or set up. Just bring your laptop.
