Custom Persistence Layer of Temporal Cloud

Building with Temporal Cloud Webinar Series: Session 3 of 5

To support web-scale customers, we re-designed Temporal Cloud’s persistence layer. In this session, we discuss the challenges encountered at the storage layer when supporting large scale, the architecture of Temporal Cloud, and how it’s been optimized to process 150,000+ actions/second in performance tests.

Key takeaways

In this 35-minute session, we cover:

  • What are the challenges of the storage layer when running at scale? Compute is easy, persistence is hard
  • What changes we’ve made to Temporal Cloud’s persistence layer to optimize latency
  • Stories about the customer scenarios Temporal Cloud is supporting at scale

About the presenter

Sergey is a Software Engineer at Temporal. Prior to joining Temporal, Sergey was one of the founders of the Orleans project at Microsoft Research and led its development for over a decade. The mediocre state of developer tools for cloud services and distributed systems at the time inspired him to join the Orleans project in order to qualitatively improve developer productivity in that area. The same passion brought him to Temporal.
